I'm just the messenger -- thought this was big enough to deserve its own thread.

Eigeny Oulianov has developed a workaround to enable reverting back to an older firmware version:

"Updater obtains the firmware segments versions from Pronto and compares those (versions) with ones stored on the end of tspupd.exe.

1. Run Update_Pronto_NG.exe from TSU3000__v2.3.9.zip or RU950__v2.3.9.zip and don't touch it.
2. Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\###current user###\Local Settings\Temp\IXP000.TMP\"
3. Copy both files (tspcom.dll and tspupd.dll) to stable place, say "My Documents\NG recovery"
4. Carefully, byte-to-byte, change both strings at the end of tspupd.exe "2.3.9.0" to "3.2.0.0"
5. Close Update_Pronto_NG.exe, use tspupd.exe.

After the updating, Pronto become actually 2.3.9.0, de-facto and for updaters."

Thanks! I did revert back to the older firmware already via exchanging the remote for another one, but I will keep this work around in my hip pocket for a rainy day. Thanks again!

Following these instructions with great care, I can't make it work. I see a DOS screen for less than a second, the PC beeps, and the screen closes.

You have successfully break the PE structure of .EXE, so win32 tries to exec DOS part of this file. The DOS screen contains phrase "This program cannot be run from DOS mode".
Lets ask for the file from ludovich - I can't post so long file via e-mail.

you have to use an editor that can edit binary files while preserving the binary content. Notepad can't do that. I use a code editor that has that capability. I will do this and post the DLL a bit later today.

Actually I just did this, the file can be downloaded here: [Link: mysite.verizon.net]

Unzip it in a temp folder and execute tspupd.exe. This contains the 2.3.12 firmware repackaged as a fake 3.1.16 firmware so that the updater lets it update your pronto, even if you have the 3.1.15 firmware on it.

Disclaimer: to the best of my honest knoeledge, this file is virus free and *should do* what's advertised here. I have tried it and it worked *for me*. In the event something goes wrong, I take no responsibility as I am providing this as a free courtesy service to my fellow and unfortunate Pronto 3000 users who believed Philips tested their Firmware updates before they release it. In short, don't sue me if things go wrong, as they always can :-)

...also, I forgot to mention that you will have to revert to the previous version of PENG (1.2.6 I think). If you have opened your PCF with 2.0 and saved it back, then PENG 1.2 will NOT be able to open it, so hopefully you have a backup somewhere...
